Whau valley Water Treatment Plant
SSP Engineering was contracted to deliver the fabrication and installation of stainless-steel pipework, structural steel platforms, handrails and stairs, along with the installation of mechanical plant and equipment for the construction of the new Whau Valley Water Treatment Plant.
The new facility has significantly increased Whangārei’s water supply capacity from 15,000 to 22,000 cubic metres per day. It incorporates modern filtration systems and the latest treatment technologies for cleaning, filtering, monitoring and controlling water quality, ensuring a safe and reliable supply for the growing district.
Designed as a future-proofed and resilient asset, the plant provides increased security of supply in the face of population growth and climate-related challenges. The upgraded infrastructure strengthens long-term water security while improving system reliability and operational performance.
Commissioned in May 2021, the Whau Valley Water Treatment Plant treats raw water from the existing Whau Valley Dam and the Hātea River, securing Whangārei’s urban water supply for decades to come. The facility is located at 270 Whau Valley Road, Whangārei.
